Home Equity Loans
A Home Equity Loan is based on the equity that has accumulated in your home. Such a loan is often used for remodeling or debt consolidation, but also other purposes. The advantages of a Home Equity Loan are usually low closing costs and a quick closing period. Its drawbacks are that the rate is usually higher than if you were to refinance and obtain a new first mortgage loan and, for some, it may deplete their only remaining source of equity.
Before you take out a home equity loan, be sure to consider refinancing and other possibilities. Your bank or mortgage lender can help you with alternatives. The publications contained in home loan books can also help, and the sources contained below may provide you with a better deal than with your local contacts.
